Bonding

Bonding is a process used to apply a tooth-colored resin to a tooth for the repair of chips, cracks, stains, or decayed areas. The professionals at the Centre for Cosmetic Dentistry offer bonding to improve your smile.

Bonding can also be used to cover exposed tooth roots when gums have receded. Composite resin is a special type of plastic used for dental repairs. It is inexpensive and easy to apply.

When bonding composite resin, very little tooth preparation is needed as the tooth is only slightly roughened with a conditioning gel, and anesthesia is not typically required. Ultraviolet light is applied to set the composite resin after application, then the resin will be shaped, trimmed, and polished to match the rest of the natural teeth.

Bonding composite resin can fix one or several teeth in a short amount of time. Bonding can be accomplished in 30 to 60 minutes. Even large areas of damage can be corrected in just one office visit.

For the first 48 hours after application, the patient needs to avoid high-staining food, but dental care of composite resin bonding is as simple as normal brushing and flossing. As the plastic resin is still prone to staining over time, it is suggested to avoid smoking, berries, tea, and coffee in the long term.
