An implant consists of three components. A titanium screw is placed in the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure in the dental office. An abutment is placed on top of the screw to attach the crown to. The initial crown placed is only a temporary crown that remains in place for the healing period. Healing will take from three to six months. When healing is complete, a permanent crown is then placed on the abutment.
